Nine works from Lou Peralta’s brand new Comalli series are part of Patricia Conde Galería’s Utopías Femeninas. The group show is on view at the Mexico City gallery through September 18th.
Peralta’s Comalli blends photographs of comals—a type of clay griddle used in Mexican households to make fresh tortillas—with portraits of women and men from across the country. In line with Peralta’s multimedia practice, the prints are embellished with materials found in local markets and nature. Add-ons include feathers, gold tissue paper, and jerga fabric.
